Bigger rims will require different tires. A larger rim needs a lower profile tire in order to be the same outside diameter as a stock wheel/tire combo. You obviously cannot put a 13" tire on a 14 or 15" rim. If your tire choice doesn't go much wider or taller overall than stock, you shouldn't have issues rubbing your fenders or suspension.
Changing wheel sizes won't cause clearance issues for your brakes unless you go smaller. I don't know if they even make wheels smaller than 13". The problem is that your car has a very uncommon hub size. Most aftermarket wheels are 5 lug. To make matters worse, the 4 lug hubs on your car are spaced 110 mm apart (4x110 mentioned by trochoid). Not many automakers used this size over the years, and as a result, barely any aftermarket companies make rims for that lug pattern. I have personally seen less than 10 aftermarket rims that will slide onto your wheel studs properly.
Once your post count is a little higher, check out the Suspension/Wheels/Tires/Brakes Forum. You may find what brands of wheels other people have found to fit your lugnut pattern. You also can go into the 1st gen forum and search for "5 lug swap". You will increase your wheel options exponentially by going to a 5x114.3 stud pattern. I haven't researched this swap at all, but it may require changing brakes, axles, or more. In the end, this will probably cost more than just finding rims you can bolt on to your existing hubs, but it will give you 1000 times more wheel options. Hope this helps. Welcome to the Forums!
