what is this in my intake port? PICS INSIDE
 

yesterday i removed the intake manifold and fuel rail and this morning when i woke up and took the dogs out i smelled gas. i looked in the driveway and saw the puddle under the car and popped the hood. as i thought there was fuel coming from the fuel line where the fuel rail was unbolted. i really didn't expect there to be much pressure left as the car hasn't ran for a year. i started to remove the gas cap to release pressure but, the battery is dead in the car and the gas door wouldn't pop. i went ahead and put the fuel rail back on so i wouldn't lose anymore fuel.

after cleaning everything up and stopping the leak i decided to clean the ports in the block alittle. when i got to the 2nd port (the smaller port closest to the firewall) i felt inside and felt something loose. i got the pliers out and pulled out this

question is, what is it? i felt in the other port and i could feel something in there similar. i could feel the little sloping, flat edge.

someone please let me know what it is. i guess this means i'm gonna have to pull the engine now for a rebuild. i'm sure this isn't healthy. hoping it isn't something too serious. seeing as how it's plastic i don't think it's meant to last forever.

That would be part of an air bleed/diffuser for an injector. The top part, which will still be in place, has 2 o-rings & allows the injector to sit at the right height. Given the length of that piece, it's from a secondary injector.

They help atomize fuel, but they can be modified. Some break the ends off intentionally to avoid pieces going into the engine if they do break.
