what are the advantages of coilovers over adjustable struts
 

I am knew to this. I have an 88 N/a Cabriolet. I am biulding it to drift and drive on the surface streets. My suspension is blown and I haev terrible understeer(which is I think due to old tires in the front). Any suggests on how to correct this? Also what are the advantages of coilovers over adjustable struts. Which should I get? What brands? I am looking at getting adjustable strust with some springs cuz that will be a bit cheaper. Thank you for all your help.

Coilovers are just better all around, but like you have figured out they can be more expensive. Adjustable struts with lowering springs are quite alright for street use, you should be more than happy with that set up.

However one thing people often overlook is their old worn out bushings. Consider replacing all those first before you slap on some stiffer/lower suspension.

One reason your car may be understeering is because it is a heavy ass vert :lol:. Good new sticky tires will help remedy this.

Coilovers are mostly for race cars to be able to corner balance the car. Its pretty much a waste on a street car - especially on an RX7 that is well balanced to begin with.

B/c Coilovers are designed for more aggressive track driving, they generally offer less ride comfort. Cheap coilovers are like cheap suits. You get what you pay for and is apparent each time you wear/drive them.

In the end, it depends on what your goals are. Since you have a 'vert (Cabriolets are girly VW Rabbits), all out performance isn't in line with that chassis. I'd recommend a good set of struts Konis and some decent springs like Eibachs, H&Rs or the TII springs. When I had my Turbo II 'Vert, I ran Konis and stock TII springs and sways and the car was awesome.

Coil overs are way better. Easier to slap on more options for sports tuning and in the long run they are worth buying so there is no need to be afraid of making an investment if you are planning to keep the car.:icon_tup: no need to compress springs to make a strut change.:lol:
