warning lights on 88 rx7

i just recently got a 88 rx7 and all of a sudden when i turn my key every warning light on my dash comes on all at once and my car wont fire. I have spark and i have tried the unflooding methods in the forums. i am wondering if all the warning lights are soppose to come on with the key and it just wasnt working before or if thats part of my problem. the car was running the night before this started happening.

my clock just started working today so im guessing they just didn't work right before anything i should check for why i cant get it to fire it just cranks and cranks

Usually that indicates that you blew an alternator belt.

wait....what???

rx7fan5645 03-10-16 12:58 AM

the belt looks fine and is till tight

With the key to on and engine off, the alternator sends a ground signal to a relay, which in turn causes most of the warning lights to illuminate, as this is how the car was designed, so it is perfectly normal. If the lights were to come on w/the engine running, then the lights are telling you that there is likely something wrong w/the charging system, which is not your case.

Threads are NEVER closed in this section as they stay for future inquiries and reference.
....well unless it is a repetitive/often asked or "What is my car worth" type of Thread..lol!

I fixed my gas line and my car still wont fire, it cranks and cranks but never even makes a attempt to start and im getting spark at the spark plugs what are some things i can check.

misterstyx69 03-14-16 12:05 AM

Ya..but are you getting Fuel after you fixed the line?
You can pull the egi fuse and the plugs...roll it over..
Then put the EGI back in,roll the engine over and observe to see if there is a mist that comes out of the plug holes.
If that is happening then you know you have fuel.

stevo9494 03-14-16 12:21 AM

I know you mentioned that you tried to deflood it earlier, but have you tried it again after fixing the fuel line?

Also, any vacuum leaks? You said you had spark, are your spark plugs fouled?

I had a bike a year ago, i parked it in my back yard and a week later it wouldn't start. couldn't figure it out for a days. Me and my dad took it apart (not fully, but most of the bike), i rechecked every wire on it, redid the carbs and everything. Turns out I just ran out of gas. Haha. I flipped the reserve on the gas tank and she turned right on!
So moral of my story is, are you getting gas? Even though you fixed the fuel line, is fuel flowing through your injectors?

satch 03-14-16 12:00 PM

You can check for fuel flow w/key to on and fuel check connector jumpered by placing the fuel hose in a jug.

i have like 1 volt at the fuel pump and i tried to run direct power to fuel pump while out of tank and it didnt kick on either so im guessing something shorted and fried my pump right?

rx7fan5645 03-14-16 06:36 PM

thats 1 volt when cranking the engine btw i know the fuel pump doesnt have power otherwise

satch 03-14-16 07:54 PM

Are you sure that the correct wire is being tested. The pump connects to the rear harness and the wire in the rear harness is Blue/Red. This wire comes from the circuit opening relay which is located underneath the dash just to the right of the steering column. Plug to relay has 5 wires. Top row has three wires and the top right corner of the plug houses the Blue/Red wire. W/key to start the wire should read close to 9-12 volts or so.

rx7fan5645 03-15-16 12:09 AM

im testing the wires going straight into the fuel pump itself

satch 03-15-16 11:11 AM

It's best to start w/measuring at the rear harness w/respect to the Blue/Red wire as stated or at the relay.

If you jumped the fuel pump directly, and it doesn't turn on, then you have a bad fuel pump, most likely. If you were out of gas because the busted line, and your fuel pump was running, that's probably why it burned up.

rx7fan5645 03-15-16 03:37 PM

i wasnt out of gas i have a little over half a tank

rx7fan5645 03-16-16 08:16 PM

how come when im cranking my car im getting less than 1 volt at the fuel pump

FührerTüner 03-17-16 08:33 AM

how come you said you jumped the fuel pump directly, and it doesnt work? How come you havent replaced it yet?

satch 03-17-16 10:37 AM

The fuel pump does not output voltage. The fuel pump does not output voltage. The fuel pump does not output voltage/ W/that said it receives voltage (yes, receives). Take what's been provided to you and figure it out.
