VDI ports

Hi, I was curious if there is a way to check the vdi ports on a 13b n/a. I just bought this car a week ago and have learned a lot, but I have yet to find anything telling me how I can check those, or if theres is a way to. Anything will help.
Thanks

they open at 3800 rpm and only under load.

the s5 actuators push the 5th and 6th valve sleeves rather than pull them.
ive been wondering if i can somehow mount a camera near, drive for a couple mins(spirited) and watch the video and see if they moved.

VDI or 6PI? Two separate systems.

Car info? S4 or S5?

Smear a bit of grease on the actuator then go for a drive to activate the ports. Then check to see if the grease has moved.

Its a 1990 s5 gxl, ill have to try the grease, will it move quite a bit, or is it one that hardly moves at all? Also aaron I like you car. I came across it on youtube, very nice.

hey aaron on s4's d the actuators pull the sleeves so the greese trick works? cause on s5's it wont.

I was always under the impression that on an s5, the aux ports and VDI work even when revving in neutral. Also, if they are working, you should be able to open them by attaching a clean vac line onto the nipple and blowing into it. You have to blow hard, but you can still open them if it isn't stuck.

The aux. ports shouldn't open without load on S5s (ie in neutral). The 6PI solenoid is ECU controlled, which should prevent the solenoid from energizing unless certain vacuum or load conditions are met. The secondary injectors work in a similar way. It's not just 3800 RPM that switches them on, it's also vacuum dependent.

The easiest way I can think to test the aux. ports on an S5 is to just apply 12V power and a ground to the 6PI solenoid, while the engine is idling. A simple way to do this is to disconnect a plug from an emissions solenoid and connect it to the 6PI solenoid (brown). Try the blue or gray one. The blue one (relief solenoid) may require disconnecting the TPS and revving the engine to 1500+ RPM.

If you do this, or just run some wires over to the solenoid, the aux. port actuators should snap open. If they don't, the actuators may be stuck, or the vacuum hose (actually a positive air pump pressure line) going from the ACV/air pump to the 6PI solenoid is not hooked up.

You can do this same test on the VDI solenoid (white). Give it 12V power & a ground, and the VDI actuator (driverside of UIM) will snap open.

This is true. S5 actuators are push type, so grease would not move up the shaft when the aux. ports open.

Hi. I know this is not a Haltech thread but I'm trying to setup my 5th/6ports and VDI with my Haltech. The Digital Pulse Inputs have different voltages. It ranges from 5v, 8v, to 12v. Does it matter which input/voltage I hook up my 5th/6th port and VDI to?

Thanks
