Turbo removal, is there a special trick?

We were about to remove the turbo on my s4,
after a long fight with the heatshield we almost got all the bolts unscrewed, but the lower 12 ones below the turbine.

Even tho I can get that bolt unscrewed, there is no way to get it back in:scratch:
Is there a special trick to getting the turbo unscrewed and back on, or am I just a monkey:blush:

Forgot to specify that the engine is still in the car

Not too tricky , but the lower 12 you talking about the ones that bolt up to the manifold? I'd it's the first time thAt turbo is getting removed. I would believe that all the exhaust related bolts will be seized on there. Soaking them with pb blaster overnight would help.

Thanks, it was a real pita. Especially that evil heatshield, gonna have to figure out how to get it all back up lol

No problem I would have kept the heat shields on if they weren't so rusted, I ended up not putting them back on. I plan on throwing in a turbo blanket on and some exhaust wrap on the down pipe. Along with some reflective heat tape on the LIM

Still looking for a solution myself, unless I can find an aftermarket heatshield for my precious.
Am cautious of wraps though, since a friend of mine got the warp on his car soaked with oil over time, with the horrible result of the wrap catching fire.
