Hello everyone.I am new here and I wanted to share my thoughts with you at this post.First of all I have a mazda mx-5 nbfl sporty turbo with 2867 gen II and using rx-7 fd transmission.Recently a noise came from the clutch when in neutral gear but goes away when I push the clutch in.I read alot about input bearing or output bearing, the noise comes when I drive the car in town and after alot usage of the clutch.The noise goes away when I drive the car it only make it when in neutral gear.The car has a 4 puck solid hub.Any advice would be aweasome about the exact problem of this issue because I cant figure out.Also what this may occur if not shorten out in time?Some people told me that this is normal on rx7 FD trans after some hard driving aswell but I think it makes it even when I drive the car around normally.

*A noise that appears when the clutch pedal is depressed, and stops when the clutch is engaged tends to point toward a throw-out bearing. This requires removal of the transmission but is an easily ordered and replaced part.

*A growling noise that stops when the clutch is depressed in neutral, or a growling noise that tends to fade in the higher gears while moving points toward the input shaft bearing. This requires the removal of the transmission but for an experienced shop this isn't hard to replace. I wouldn't let it go too long as a bad bearing can damage/gall the input shaft and unless you can find a used one, they're very expensive to replace.
What you're describing sounds more like an input shaft bearing. It might get worse after a long drive as the gear oil warms up and it's viscosity thins.

So it has nothing to do with the 4 puck solid hub?so this is not normal.I see I am on the second case right now and I need to find an experienced shop it seems.


Are there any shops that sells this stuff that you guys recomend?


Is it worth buying a used? or go straight for new one

I have no personal experience with a hub clutch, but since it has no springs to take up the shock of engagement it may have added some stress to the bearing and contributed to it's failure. The bearing should be available through any MAZDA dealership. I would NOT recommend a used one.

Do you know the codes of the part so I can check it/buy it on the web?I dont trust anyone to buy parts for my car.

if its the pilot shaft bearing the problem I think it not as major as the input bearing it can wait a little longer as the noise isnt that bad at this time.I will post a video later on today so you can listen it.Is the pilot shaft bearing a common problem?hard to repair? what was your experience

The car also make a sound from stand still to acceleration(not hard)also it makes the same noise when you step on the clutch its like a trichet noise from my experience this is the pilot shaft bearing but I am really concered if it this the input bearing.I will post a detailed video later and I hope it will explain everything.

does it still make a noise just resting ur foot on the clutch pedal?

Hello sorry for late response.When I rest my foot on the pedal or press it 50/100 it still makes some noise but after it stops.
Here are two videos explaining It is clearly when I press the clutch and when I dont.
The videos are the same day after a small driving.

clearly the noise is in the trans, probably bearings.

Aha I see I will change the fuild as first thing to do and see how it goes..If the noise is still there propably will go for a repair/rebuild.

changed the fluid with amsoil 75w90 GL4 sound is still there mechanic says its nothing to worry about..
Will wait for it to get worse then maybe rebuild..
