towing and how to buy...
Hi, i am trying to buy this rx7 but it was sitting there for 2-3 years. The engine was rebuilt before but sitting there since. What do I need to change after sitting for a while except all the fluids.
Also He told me to tow it. He meant he does not want me to have some trouble by driving his car which was sitting for a while for 5 hours. If I rent a trailer can I rent the one two wheels are on the road? or the one with all wheels are on the trailer?? Thank you in advance. |
He wants you to tow it because it can't be started, is my bet...does he have receipts showing that car with that license plate getting a rebuilt engine from some shop? If not, the rebuild part is a lie....but if it's not a lie, what year car have you found?

IF the car is a manual, it is safe to tow it with the drive wheels turning on the ground. However some people are still nervous about this, and prefer to get a full trailer.
IF the car is an auto, DO NOT tow it with the drive wheels on the ground, or it will demolish the transmission. THe reason for this is manual trannies are a gear bath, anytime the input or output shafts spin, the gears inside pick up oil from the bottom and lube themselves. Automatics require the front pump, driven by the torque converter and ultimately the engine, be turning in order to get any lubrication. Thus an auto is not being lubricated if the engine is not running, yet you are still spinning the driveshaft. With either MT or AT you always have the option to tow the car with the steering wheels on the ground. All you have to do is lock the steering column with the wheels as close to straight as possible. IF the column will not lock, or will not lock close to straight, use about 15-25 feet of rope to securely tie the steering wheel in position...use things like the e-brake handle, the seat rails or seat back, or armrest handles to form 2 or 3 sturdy tie down points for the wheel so it can't come loose. |
If you're renting one, rent a flatbed. It's possible to starve the bearings in the transmission unless you take the time to disconnect the driveshaft.

Thank you guys. It's a Manual. He said he can start the motor with jumping cable. But not recommend to drive for 5 hours.........
So it's safer to rent a flat bed then. I will check the price for both. |
