towing 1991 rx7 w/auto transmission

I have a class 3 motorhome and would like to tow my RX-7 with automatic transmission. Has anyone done this with four wheels on the ground? Book says not over 30 miles. Any ideas or experience? Thanks

remove the driveshaft

Your wheels can lock up, I wouldn't do it too far.

Not sure about Mazda trans but they are all basically the same .. When you tow most auto trans cars the internal parts are turning but there is no oil from the pump so some internals can and do burn out from heat and friction ,, again i'm not up on mazda trans but if you can put the car in gear to start it while towing you can tow them a short distance because the pump is turning to make pressure to activate the clutches, so it will also lubricate , But I think it is bad practice . like kneedrager said remove the driveshaft.. You should also get a tad better mileage ..

just unbolt the shaft from the rearend and tie it up. and make sure the steering wheel is unlocked.

put it in neutral and disconnect the battery

Seems like more trouble to tow and I don't want to damage the RX7. Thanks for all the good advice and quick replies!

How about a flatbed trailer? You don't have to remove anything.

honestly, i constantly see people tow cars in the way you describe, im sure theres a proper way to do it if you look it up on google,

and the rx7 may have a rotary in it but it doesnt mean it needs anything special that other cars wouldnt need to do this, mazda used the same auto trans in just about every rwd car that generation
