Too much premix!!!
Has enyone else found that after adding premix, that thier engine would not run???
I have heard many different ratios to run such as 800:1, 500:1, 100:1, and so on...What is the real answer??? What is the minimum?...and what is the max... I have been trying to run mega squirt, and after all this trial and error, I found that it was just bad gas or too much premix. Placing a carb back on with the bad gas and the engine would not start. It would run on carb cleaner though. changed the gas to straight gas and "BRAPRAPRPAPAPRPBPARB". So now I'm wondering what others have used in thier system... |
IMO....1 oz. per gallon with no OMP. I run about 1/2 oz. per gallon with the stock OMP.
Caveat....thats on an FD with AI. But I believe it would be the same regardless of generation. |
^ Ditto. Also, too much premix can clog the fuel filter, so there is a downside to using too high of a concentration.

in general, too much of anything ....
|
Pretty much.

i run no OMP and average about 1oz/gallon of premix...give or take (mostly error towards the heavier premix side)
|
Would this ratio also apply for a Rx8?
|
I understand 1 Oz to 1 gallon. But some premixes use different concentrations. That ratio for 2 cycle mix would be 50:1
How about this, What premix brands are you using and what ratios are you using... |
It's not 50:1.
1 oz. per gallon would be 128:1 ratio. It doesn't matter what brand. IMO two-cycle oil is...pretty much, two-cycle oil....despite the hype some offer. Get whatever brand you feel has the most convincing advertisement. And they don't differ in "concentration" Personally I buy what's on sale. If nothing is on sale, I get Penzoil Marine 2 cycle. It's priced decently, ashless TCW3 and available everywhere. Most quart bottles have a little gauge on the end, I just eye-ball it, pour and gas up. If I wasn't running an OMP with AI, I might be a little more exact, but still, it's not like your mixing explosives. If you wanted to err on the side of caution, put in a bit extra. |

Anything resembling an appropriate ratio of pre-mix won't keep an engine from running. Either he used WAY WAY too much, or there's something else preventing the engine from running.
