TII engine mod question
I have recently aquired an 87 TII and was wondering what mods i can do to raise the power(after 60k tuneup of course) and not have to tune it? I have tried searching and couldnt find anything. I also remember reading that the factory top mount can only hande 300-350hp?? before heat soaking and that the ecu will cut fuel after 8.5 psi. My thoughts were to get a walbro 255, electronic boost controller, raise boost to 10psi(factory turbo limits are 12-14??) intake and full exhaust.
What kind of power gains would I be looking at? Anything else i should do to assist the process? Any help and criticism is welcome with open arms (: -Trey |

See the link posted above. If you click on the Site Map you will also see more info on basic mods and repairs. Your boost questions should be answered on that site.
Two low-budget mods that are not mentioned on that website are the Rtek ECUs and BNR hybrid turbos. These are common bolt-on mods for those who don't want to spend a lot of time and money on their cars. However, yes, you would probably want a front-mounted air-air intercooler if your engine is built for a lot of horsepower. This is because the stock intercooler is designed for low pressure loss and quick response, which is more suited to a peppy street setup as the car came from the factory. A higher-boosted engine is usually better off with an intercooler that is designed for high airflow and maximum heat rejection, even though this will hurt response and incur a larger pressure drop. Another option is Anti-Detonant Injection (usually called "Auxiliary Injection" or "AI" on the internet). |
Thanks this helps alot! (:
