Thinkn about a port job

Okay so I dont have the money to do a tii swap right now but in the near future Im hoping. So i have a buddy who is a certified mechanic who is also a rx7 owner/enthusiast and he has done lots of rotary work for himself as well as other owners in my area.Due to ignorance ive done other mods without looking into a good port job and I think maybe now its time to go that direction. So heres my question.I have an atkins rebuild in my 88' GTU 13b n/a it has approx 25,000 miles on it. In having him do a port job is all i need to get is a gasket set or will i need more than that? And also my car is my driver but I like the hot rod too so Im looking for some good performance as well as driveability I dont care about gas mileage as long as its pretty bad Ass.What is a good port job to do say ,street, bridge,J, what. Im not real hip to what they all mean so any insight would be great. The mods Ive done are as follows :icon_tup: Racing Beat downpipe and pre silencer into 2 1/2 exhaust all the way into tuneable cans ,550cc RC injectors,Spectre Cold Air Intake,Sachs clutch, and finally Raceline 17" inch wheels sittin on federal 45 series tires

Lose the 550CC secondary injectors. All they are doing is wasting fuel and power.

After 25K, I'd suggest replacing your apex seals as well as all the soft gaskets. You could use them again if you keep them in the same location they were prior to disassembly, but why? To save $300? Not worth it, in my opinion.

In many cases, it is also kind of crazy to disassemble a perfectly good and freshly built engine to port it. And keep in mind that the 6 port system in many cases will cause you to lose low end as the result of a port job, for only 20HP or so up top (if well tuned).

If you want power past what the NA engine will provide, I suggest you just keep saving for the TII swap and enjoy the NA setup you have in the mean time.

I wouldn't take apart a perfectly good engine just to port it. Just save your money for a TII.

Not saying you couldn't get some decent power out of an NA. My friend got 230hp on a stock port GSL-SE 13b.

So what kind of mods did your buddy do to get the 230 hp thats the kind of power that im lookin for if i can do it without the port great then i can save for the tll conversion and thats what i really want anyway

Stuff like custom (not brand made) exhaust, intake manifold, stand alone ecu, fuel pump, injectors, hours of tuning, tons of parts, etc... All work done by a rotary shop for their 1st gen race car. The shop sold the complete car for $30,000.

Point is... If you spend the thousands of dollars to make your NA have 200+ HP you have already spent more than you would on a TII swap, PLUS the added cost of the like 8mpg you will be getting out of the monster NA build.

My advice? Save for the TII, run your car as it is.
