Thermostat question
OK so my car started to steam from the thermostat housing. I don't think it has a gasket either. My gage always reads cold also. But... Since Imma put a gasket Imma replace the thermostat. I was wondering if a alternating thermostat is good. Or is it best to get a thermostat that opens on the proper temp?

You really want to stick with the factory Mazda one from the dealer.

They are more expensive, but there are lots of testimonials about cheap ones going out. One of the biggest issues with rotaries is keeping them cool. When the t-stat goes, really back things happen to the rotor housings.

Failsafe thermostat
I installed a 180 degree Failsafe Thermostat about 10 years ago. I believe it finally went after 70k miles, it takes longer for my temp gauge to start rising and it does not rise as high as it did. I was concerned about overheating so this worked for me.

At least on the FD the stock thermostat begins opening at 80 C. (~180 F.) and is fully open at 95 C. (~203 F.)
If we're talking FD, I'm with KansasCityRPU, get an OEM. |
