Test for omp?

hey i just bought a 89 rx7 and i took it to mazdatrix cuz it was giving me a check engine light and they told me it was my omp so i was wondering if there was a test i could run in order to see if the omp is working or not
thanks

If you're talking about the Mazdatrix in Signal Hill, California with the great catalog, shipping and customer service, you need to be slapped silly for doubting a legend in RX-7's. :icon_no2:

Were that we were all lucky enough to be able to take a car to the guru's themselves.

On an S5, a failed MOP/OMP generally means a portion of the ECU has been burned up as well. Both parts will have to be replaced.

thanks rotary rocket i found out using the link that datz gave me that the problem with the omp is the potentiometer is bad so i have to replace the omp cuz idk of a place that just sells the potentiometer any help on locating a OMP with warranty would be greatly appreciated and i dont think my ecu is burnt cuz i got voltage readings when i was testing the omp with the ecu

so i have just come to the conclusion that im probably going to put a block off plate on it but i was wondering if the check engine light will come back on if i put the block off plate on and if so how do i rig it so i doesn't come back on

RotaryRocket88 06-21-10 09:50 PM

You can't just block off an S5's OMP. That will just permanently put the car in limp mode if the pump is non-functional or you unplug it. You'll need to do something like use Pocketlogger's Rtek v1.0 for S5 NAs, which removes the OMP code. http://www.pocketlogger.com/index.ph...age=1&ecu=S5NA

man Thanks AGAIN rotary rocket

I did the Rtek when my omp went, worked great.

i was wondering if u could rig up a mechanical omp onto my s5 and get the chip i wanna know if thats possible and how i can do that

RotaryRocket88 06-27-10 02:46 PM

Yes, you could, but you would have to swap on an S4 front cover, and find some way to control the pump. If you used an S4 TB, you would not be able to use the S5 TPS, so that idea doesn't work. If you keep the S5 TB, there's no attachment point for an S4 OMP rod, but you might be able to use some S4 TB parts to adapt it. The other option would be a custom setup with something like a bike cable to move the pump's lever.

i kinda get what ur saying rocket but can u clarify what TB and TPS stand for??

sorry for my newbieness

ok so i was wondering if anyone has swapped an S$ mechanical omp onto an S5 i was thinking of doing that and throwing one of these on there for the limp mode
