Stuck on the alignment dowel pins.
 
Hi again, i'm just wondering what some people used to remove their alignment dowel pins from the rotor housings so that they could separate the housings from the covers on an engine tear-down, other than an alignment dowel pin puller.

The reason for asking this is that i'm just wondering if there is a cheaper alternative than spending like $150 on a puller that i'm probably going to use once.

So for those who have done this, what did you do? If there really is no alternative just let me know right off the bat, assuming this is even a question worth asking haha.

Unless the engine was severely overheated or run hot for long periods of time, the dowels just pop out.

Slide the housing up over the dowel. Then just grab it and pull it out. Sticking in a tension bolt, angling it to one side and then pulling the pin also works.

If that fails, thread a bolt it the pin (I don't recall what the thread is...) and grip that bolt with a good set of Vice Grips. Or tap it out with a hammer against the bolt.
