If you do a MILD streetport, the OEM system should compensate. But if you're going through the trouble of tearing it apart and porting it, why go mild?

Let's see what the 3rdgen guru's have to say on the matter, I'm just a 1stgen guy still playing with carburetors.

You really need to spend some time reading the 3rd gen FAQ thread: https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-generation-specific-1993-2002-16/faq-3rd-gen-other-useful-links-68640/

You realize that you need to rebuild the motor to do any kind of porting, right?

You typically only need to upgrade your fuel system when you increase boost beyond the stock 10 PSI or so. The system flows enough fuel for bolt on air flow mods (intake, exhaust, IC) so long as you keep boost at 10 PSI.

If you search the 3rd gen section, you'll see feedback from people that have run the stock ECU with a street port. It works but is not optimal since the timing needs change when you do port work. The only time you need a standalone is when your mods dictate that you need (or can benefit from) special tuning of fuel and ignition - such as with a street port or increased boost levels or to support the mods that you want to run.

Also, port work makes it more difficult to pass smog.

You don't necessarily need a "big" port. Mild is fine. It all depends on what you are trying to do with the car. Bigger gives you more top end with a slight loss on the bottom end - think of it as a big cam. Mild is like running a small cam.
