Stock FD w/ Walbro 255
Long story short, just got my hands on a stock FD that has sat for about 12 years. In the process of trying to clean out the fuel tank or replacing if that doesn't work. It does also need a fuel pump and I have a Walbro 255 laying around that I'd like to use instead of purchasing a new pump, my question is; can I just wire up the pump in place of the stock one and have everything work as it should? Will I have any fuel pressure issues or anything of that sort without any modifications to the car or fuel system?
Thanks! |
12 years...? You might want to dump that fuel and put fresh fuel in the tank, new fuel filer would be wise too. I would do a complete run up. Spark plugs with wires, oil change, etc etc..than crank it see what happens...

I would recommend buying the denso supra pump. Its a drop in replacement and pretty cheap

Do you plan on keeping the car stock? How old is the pump you have?

I upgraded to a walbro 255 when upgrading my injectors. I believe it was the GSS342 model. It was a drop in fit and has been working great for me.

I'm wondering if l can just use the walbro 255 I have laying around without having any fuel pressure issues (too high, too low).

I'd definitely recommend a supra denso fuel pump.

Stock fd , it's OK to use that 255. If you need more later on you always can swap it.

Just an update: went ahead and installed the 255 with some hose clamps to hold it in place. Gas tank was cleaned out and got the car running. Idles pretty well to me but then again it has sat for 10+ years and I've never owned an FD.
Didn't keep it running for long as the oil cooler lines are leaking but pump seems to be working just fine. Also don't see a reason why I should spend $100+ on a new pump just because that's what everyone else is putting in their car when I have a new one sitting around but thanks for your opinion! |
You'll get a lot of that on this forum. Popular opinion is law for some reason. The walbro is/was fine. Glad you decided to use it instead of needlessly buying another pump.
