Stock bov Can it be vented to the atmosphere

I have a 86 t2 and I would like to know if I can detach the stock bov from the intake? is the bov conected between the intake pipe and the bac? anyone,s input would be great :)

No, the stock bypass valve does not work the same way as an aftermarket BOV. It is open at idle, which means you would be creating a giant vacuum leak after the turbo.

thanks

thanks rotary rocket i guess I'll have to look into buying an aftermarket bov

It's ok if you put a filter on it. The vacuum leak is a non issue since it's ahead of the throttle body.

Oops, I see this is for a T2. I'm thinking 3rd Gen. Nevermind.

You can do this if you put a check valve (sprinkler store) in front of the BOV. But seriously, why? It's nothing but a noise maker and the check valve is the very definition of ghetto-rigging. Why bother getting an aftermarket BOV? It has the potential to cause problems as your vehicle has an AFM. Just use the stock one which works perfectly fine.

You can but you need a few things.

Top half of a plastic coke bottle
Small hose to connect bottle and bov
Suction cup thing(size of a quarter/holds things to glass)
rubberband
paperclip
Something to plug the TID

Under $5 BOV

Here is the best pic I have of my old stock bov. My buddy made it and it worked great til I upgraded. In the pic if you look above the air filter you can see a silver painted top half of a coke bottle. Maybe a better write-up on this design is around here somewhere.:) Anybody else doing this??

thanks for the info. i thought the pop bottle idea was quite interesting, that sure beats paying for an aftermarket if your on a budget:icon_tup:
