Sticky interior trim - what can be done?
 

What is the safest or correct way to remove or clean up the sticky paint/gunk on my 93 interior?

Alcohol
Acetone
Goof-off
WD-40
Gasoline :)
Simple Green
Citrus cleaner

And assuming I can get it cleaned up, then what? Spray bomb it? Get it wrapped or dipped? Does someone do refinishing on these pieces?

I sanded the gunk off and repainted.

depends on the base, i would try simple green, move up to a citrus based, then goof off or super purple. be careful with acetone.

I agree that it depends on the base, but denatured alcohol works great most of the time.

Thanks for the replies. My shifter console to the left of the shifter is smooth and shiny. Based on what I have read in this thread I found, it shouldn't be too hard to remove the older finish. I actually already have a can of the Duplicolor bumper paint and a can of Plastidip as well. Going to go with the bumper paint first as its finish looks to be a good match.

I used alcohol as well. If the finish is sticky it should come off pretty well.

Here's a pic of 3m carbon fiber wrap.
For the shifter panel I used alcohol, but on the radio /HVAC panel I made the mistake of using paint stripper spray which ate into the plastic so I had to sand it before applying the vinyl.

FWIW, what I did about 5 yrs ago...

After (I also did the shifter panel and passenger door plastic) Looks the same today, you can play Rugby on this stuff. Be sure to use a commercial cleaning solution, final wash or similar. Most interiors have been exposed to silicone and other stuff that doesn't play well. In a pinch a clean lint-free cloth and brake parts cleaner will also work.
