Steering play and speedometer?

Hello RX7 masses. Although I don't own it until Saturday (just when I'm paying for it and it comes home with us) I'm wondering how to go about fixing a few things already. Its an '85 GS. First, there's some major play in the steering, which is apparenly characteristic, but how do I tighten it up? I heard whispers of some sort of steering box but didn't see anything in the FSM. Also the speedometer is insane, goes from 0-140 in the real 0-40ish. I'll have to add a video of it. How is it that you reach behind the cluster? Does it screw in or something?
Thanks guys, I can't wait to really become part of this community, any help is appreciated.

It sounds like the speedometer in that car is damaged. The cable simply clicks in place on the back of the cluster. You will need to remove the switch assemblies from the left and right of the cluster area (Hazards, Lights up and down, etc.) and the bezel from around the cluster. (Use a stubby screwdriver for the screws that point upwards.)

Steering can be adjusted, but don't get too carried away... If you make it too tight, you risk wearing out the steering gearbox more.

Off the top of my head, this is the procedure I can think of:

Let me browse through the FSM and find the proper page it's on.

Thanks a ton guys. Picked up the car yesterday, god she's a beaut, in my eyes at least. That steering-play adjustment tutorial is absolutely fantastic, and seems like just what I'm looking for, I really appreciate it Pele, and I'm still looking into the steering cluster. Blast my inability to drive a stick shift! I can't wait to learn!
