Starter wont catch
 

So i just bought an 84 rx7 gsl and i replaced the starter because it was bad here is the problem when i turn the key to start it you can here the starter but it isnt turning over im wondering if anyone knows what the problem can be.. i can really use the help.. thank you

Is the starter turning but the engine is not rolling over?.

Its like the starter isnt catching the flywheel

I'd double check the part number of the starter then.
More than one instance of getting the wrong starter has happened.
Parts stores just wanna sell you stuff,they don't care if it is wrong or right.

Do you guys know of all possible reasons why its doing this?

Maybe a bad ring gear. Inspect it through peep hole.

Bench test the starter to make sure it's engaging, and also as jetlude said possibly bad ring gear on flywheel, typically they just get a dead spot not the whole ring gear wiped out so if you see some missing teeth try putting it in gear and pushing it forward a bit to get past the missing teeth so you can at least diagnose the problem.

Look up how to test a starter solenoid and do so. If the starter sounds like it is just spinning (not grinding) this is the most likely culprit.
Ensure the starter is able to engage the flywheel.
Ensure the entire flywheel is spinning.
If a part of the ring gear is missing teeth (and it's only a tooth or two) use a wrench&socket to turn the crank pulley slightly and then REMOVE the wrench&socket.
If all of things things check out fine then there is likely an issue with the motor.

It couldn't have anything to do with the clutch being bad right?

no, clutch has nothing to do with starting, unless its exploded and is binding, which if that was the case, the starter would just make a harsh CLUNK
