start up troubles need help
 

Ok here is the story, i ave got a 94 efini RX7 and it wont start, i started it up il the night and it run fine but next afternoon i tried to start it up but it didnt want to, any ideas? pics aswell would be really helpfull as i am a noob (Also the weather has been raining all day if that helps)

really appreciate you help because i want to get her running again so i can get her serviced on friday

Your probably flooded. I am unfamiliar with the FD but I can tell you the general solution.

You need to cut the fuel injected into the engine, spin the motor for a bit, and then turn on the fuel and start up.

On FC's you can pull the fuel injection fuse or disconnect the crank angle sensor.

Remove the fuel pump relay, crank for 10 seconds, wait 20 seconds (to give the starter a breather) and repeat. Then replace the relay, crank, add a little throttle foot action, the car should back to life. Let the car warm up so you don't re-flood the engine.

As a general rule, if you start the car cold, let it warm up to at least 40* C before shutting it off to help avoid flooding.

Hmmmm.. does your engine crank? what kind of sound does it make?

How to un-flood you FD
 

1 - Remove the EGI Main Relay (see below) to disable the fuel pump.
2 - Crank the engine for 10 seconds.
3 - Wait 20 seconds for your starter to rest.
4 - Repeat 2 and 3.
5 - Put the EGI Main Relay back in the fuse box.
6 - Crank the engine.
7 - As the engine tries to start, give it a throttle to help it start.

In the future, if you have to start the car, let it warm up before you shut it off.

You can also inject some ATF or heavy motor oil directly into the spark plug holes to help build compression, but this might not be necessary.

ok i tred your ideas and it almost worked, the engine tries to start up but just not enough, should i keep trying? will it come back to life if i keep going?

also could it be that there may be air in the fuel lines? as the tank is quite low? cheers for your help

Charge the battery, add fuel and keep trying. Don't run the starter for too long. Let it cool down between cranking.

well im guna leave it for 24 hours, iv added fuel and iv got to see if i can get the battery charged, once iv left it for 24 hours the fuel that has flooded the engine will have evaporated? or am i barking up the wrong tree? also when i try and start in 2moora do i do the fuse thing again or just tru and crank it?

You have to deflood the car, it usually doesn't deflood itself like a piston engine.

If those don't work you need to pull the fuel fuse and pull the spark plugs as well to deflood.

im guna try again 2morra night, it was so close to starting earlier aswell. its frustrating

It sounds like you might need to put some ATF or motor oil directly into the spark plug holes to help build compression, and this is an opportunity to put in fresh plugs. (If you don't have a syringe, you can use the cylinder of an ordinary ballpoint pen.) During Step 6, if the car starts to stumble, like it's trying to start, tap the throttle a few times to help give it a little gas, and keep cranking. It might take 10-15 seconds of cranking during step 6, but un-flooding the engine just takes a little persistence, and I've outlined the steps for you.

once i get it started im getting it serviced on friday so il have some new plugs in there, im guna try again later il keep updating

To add a couple things on deflooding, hold the accellerator pedal to the floor, This will draw more air through the engine to remove the fuel. Pull the plugs and clean them. I have a beadblaster that works great for cleaning plugs. Shoot them with brake cleaner, blast them, shoot with brake cleaner a 2nd time and blow dry with compressed air.

You don't really have to clean all 4 plugs, just the lower ones in each rotor.

whats a bead blaster? a can of air?

ok so heres an update the engine isnt starting so im taking it to the garage and see what the verdict is, i hope its something simple like the spark plugs, when they have sorted it i will tell you wat was up and the solution

I am not sure but did you check the engine's compression???because if you followed these techniques and the car didn't start something else may be the problem.

well i got the car started, i had to tow it and bump start it and it kicked in, i went to get it serviced and got a compression test done and i have low compression (lowest was 4.9) what causes low compression? is it the seals on the rotor going? also how would it affect the driving. one last thing, how easy is it to rebuild the engine?

my one got same pro,must do some gas firstly then start well

what seals would need to be changed?
which Rebuild kit would you buy off the internet?
