Staggered tire sizes
 

Hello,

I have a 1993 FD with the stock 16in wheels. What is the consensus on running with a staggered tire width?

Also what is the best tire size for the stock 16in wheels? I don't really like the looks of them, but they are light! The current tires are crappy and have a rather thick sidewall for my liking!

No real advantage to run staggered on a street-driven car IMO. Decent performance tires are all directional, but obviously you can't even rotate them front to back if they're staggered.
Stock size was 225/50. But 245/45 looks better, fit fine on the stock wheels, gives you a little better contact patch and will keep your speedometer correct with no interference issues. 245/45's in summer performance are a little harder to find, but seem to be making a comeback.

Not a whole lot for selection in that size of course.

Looks like I'm gonna go with a set of either:

Toyo Proxes T1R

or

Toyo Proxes R888

Anyone have any experience with either sets? The car is only driven on nice days to work and spirited canyon runs on the weekends!

The R888's are very sticky, I used them on a bespoke car and they have quite good overall performance but wear pretty quickly. They are a bit pricey for me so I'm running Hankook v12evo2's currently. They are very driveable, not loud and very easy ease up to the limit on, which is good for learning the car.

FWIW....old picture but it's stock wheels with the 245/45s. Might give you an idea. Was also on a mountain trip to Colorado. :nod:

I bought a set of Toyo Proxes t1r 245/45/16 Just waiting for my tire rack rep to have them back in stock! Should have them mounted on the car mid next month!
