Speedometer Interchangeability

My 1982 RX7 has the Federally mandated 85 mph speedometer. I would like to upgrade it to a 130 mph or 140 mph speedometer. Can anybody tell me which years have the higher limit speedometers (the 130 or 140 mph) and which would fit in my 1982 model? Thanks.

'84 and '85 won't fit, so you're stuck hunting down the 130 mph speedo for the 1981 to 1983 years...I know my '83 has it and it came that way.

Parts interchangeability on first-generation

Thanks for the information on the speedometer and the seats.

I know that many parts can be swapped within the first-generation, but Mazda made enough year-to-year changes that not everything is interchangeable. Does anybody know if there is a quick reference, either on this site or elsewhere, that gives at least some first-generation parts interchangeability information?

Thank you.

Maybe try an over seas car for gauge swap or at least km will look higher  Maybe overseas cars have both mph and km on the gauge? Don't know but it's worth a shot.
