Smells like it belongs on a track!!

Hey guys as some of you know i bought a 93' RX-7 recently...

single 60mm turbo, tuned on AFCneo and putting down about 400 to the wheels.
i dunno why the hell they chose a piggyback to tune it but i dont have the cash to do anything else right now like a standalone...

nowww some fun facts are that the car seems to be well-tuned, it runs rough when cold but when it warms up it's a dream, doesnt puff out ANY smoke at ANY rpms. 3.5'' or 4'' exhaust all the way back, NO restrictions.

WHAT IS THAT SMELLL!!!?! when the car is on it smells like a racetrack ALL around the car, and it gets on your clothes and just by driving into the garage and turning the car off I smell it on me when i get out... the best way to describe it is if you ever are at a race track, all that burnt gas in the air you can tell something is running nearby... that smell is all over!! could the car be running rich? I thought maybe it might be because of the lack of points of tuning from the AFC NEO but then again it doesnt have ANY soot whatsoever or ANY black, blue, or white smoke.

smells like gas!! anyone else have this issue? maybe its just 7's?

I have a similar problem with my 88 turbo. Starts up OK, runs great, no smoke, but
smells of unburned fuel. I suspect I'm running too rich but don't know why or how to fix.
I'm no mechanic.

Running rich and no cats.

Since you indicate that it runs rough when it is cold, it is not very well tuned. There are some major limits on what you can do with a piggyback so it is probably tuned crazy rich. A rotary will feel smooth all the way from 11:1 up to 14:1 so it could be hideously rich and you not know about it.

so im looking at a basic retune is really what we're saying... im sure a decent tuner could get the a/f ratios a little better if its running really rich?

is there anything i can do on the neo myself to see if i can come up with anything?

You are describing the smell of a car with no catalytic converter.

One of the reasons I believe straight-through exhausts belong on the track.

It's hard to say exactly what the issue is without knowing the specifics. I'm just making educated guesses based on the information given.

If you have a bit of experience with tuning and some kind of feedback that what you are doing is correct (wideband, EGT, plug reading) then you can make some adjustments. But don't just go pulling fuel out because you may just blow it up.
