Small oil leak
 

Just picked up my 93 FD yesterday, had the engine running for about an hour total, parked it in the garage. I went out a bit later (engine was cool, but not cold) and started to mess around with the wiring. Looked under the car and there was a small pool of oil, half dollar sized, below the oil pan/trans brace. haven't taken a closer look. but how would i tell if its a rear main seal or oil pan gasket?

No offense but I would say Jack it up and look at it.

Right figured that lol. But the oil is just kinda coating everything. And its a small leak so i feel like it will take a while to drip. Is there a way i can definitely say its the rear main or take that out of the equation completely.

The oil filter pedestal is a part that is prone to leakage..but really unless you really start digging there is nothing that you can pinpoint as the culprit.When my car had leaks I would drive the car onto cardboard to give myself an idea as to where the problem lay.
Not sure about FD's but there may be a way to stick a light or scope into the trans/rear of engine/clutch area to get a better look.

Thanks for the info, i might be able to get a scope in there and check it out. And i didn't even think about the oil filter pedestal ill have to take a look at that.

FDs are prone to the oil pan leaking also IIRC

You named two potential causes, Styx mentioned another. There are too many others possibilities to mention. You'll have to get under it and look. Best odds are it's your oil pan. The engine mount arms bolt thru the lip of the pan and frequently causes a leak. If that is indeed the cause and it gets too bad the front crossmember can be partially dropped and the engine raised a bit to gain enough access to pull and reseal it in the car. If you go to that trouble I recommend purchasing an aftermarket oil pan brace and searching in the 3rd Gen. Tech section and reading though the many threads for more information and tips.
