My gear shift is very sloppy - will this fix it?

Rx-7 Shifter Return Spring $10.95 on ebay

I don't know what that metal is for. But generally stay away from ebay stuff.
Sloppy shifter might be because of a worn out shifter bushing. It's quite easy to check that bushing or replace if need be (e.g. rx7.com has a replacement shifter bushing).

That is called a shifter return spring.
All it does is place the shifter in the middle of the pattern...like 3 to 4.
If it wasn't there then the shifter "may" remain say at the 1 to 2nd gear slant..

The bushings are what the shifter depends on to make it tight and not flop all over the place in the trans.

** by the way,If you "decide" to replace the return spring..GOOD LUCK..it is not a FUN Job.
Honestly you will get used to the shifting without it and save aggravation if you do not replace it.
(I had a Trans shop Screw up my Trans when they replaced one.I got back a trans that wouldn't shift onto 5th/Rev.)
