Short Ram NA??

So my question is if I put a Short Ram intake on a '90 13b NA will I have to get a new ECU and if so where would I find one and which would be good to use?:Wconfused

i would leave the stock intake. it is an extremely efficent intake, and the closest you can get to an actual CAI, due to the inlet position. with a short ram, or pretty much any other CAIs that suck from the engine bay, all you'll be doing is sucking hot air and may see some slight loss in performance.

2nd gen guys feel free to correct me if im wrong....

No.

No, you don't need to change the ECU if you modify the intake. But you should make sure it won't be pulling in hot radiator air. You'll need to block off the corner of the engine bay or build a box.

I was thinking about blocking off the corner and adding a headlight cover with an air scoop to alow ambient air into the short ram pretty much like a cold air intake.:icon_tup: :icon_tdow

Thanks. I am now planning to use the short ram but build a small 3 sided box using the side wall to seal off oneside leaving the front and top open but airtight to the rest of the engine bay. I am going to use weather stripping for the top edges to seal the box against the hood. I also plan on making or buying a headlight cover with a port to alow outside air into the box initialy creating a "cold air intake". Thanks again for the info on the ECU.:ylsuper:

"Short ram" is nothing but ricer magazine speak for an intake tube that will suck hot engine bay air.

If you are going to upgrade the intake, do it properly. First, realize that the stock airbox is actually pretty good.

If you are going to go with an aftermarket tube and a cone filter, your most important task is to build a cold air box and somehow get it a source of cold air. Leaving the stock black plastic snorkel in place works very well.

Thanks Aaron Cake. I know the stock setup is pretty good but I am looking for a way to keep or add performance as well as "dress up" the engine bay a little and get rid of some of the plastic. ;)

i did this

and you wont need a stand alone but the rtek with a full exhaust will get you some real power.

Sure, but don't you need your wipers?

An RTek is a chipped tunable stock ECU that plugs in place of the stock ECU. It's a bit of a middle step between stock and a standalone.

well the wipers would still work just no water and if you wanted to do it it could be done all i was saying i dont remember the last time i used the wiper water anyways

I am sure I could find room for an alternate water tank and rerout the hoses. Thanks Aaron. How much would a RTek ECU cost?
