Shift knob wont budge! 88' na
I have the 88' vert na, and I'm trying to replace the shift knob. I know that there is a lock thing on it with the two flat spots on each side right under the original knob, but how am I supposed to take that off or unloosen it? I've been using some vise grips and turning the crap out of it but it just wont budge..Do I need to hold the knob and turn that lock thing the opposite way?
NOTE: I have bad shifter bushings, I feel like I'm going to break something because the whole thing twists with it. |
Put a wrench on that locking thing with the Flat spots. While holding the wrench tight,Turn the Shifter knob counter-clockwise.

I feel your pain! My new FC came w a 3 piece "RAZO" wood knob. Things junk. I hope I can get it off!!

I thought u had to unlock the flat part somehow or u would just mess up the threads?

If that part is at the bottom of the threaded portion, where is it gonna go??Can't go down, there are no threads/Can't go up the knob is in the road. You need to grasp the shifter on the "collared part" with a wrench and turn the knob. |
I'm having the same problem with my 85. I want to replace the boot, but the knob seems to be on super tight and I don't want to force it. I don't see any "flat Spots" on this OEM knob to put a wrench on.
