"service Position" for the hood?

Is there a "service" position for the hood that raises it higher? On my s2000 theres 2 positions for the hood prop so it opens like baby-alligator or pappa alligator. i want pappa alligator.

also i see that theres a "detent" or stop on the hood hinge. are those removable so the hood can swing higher?

Not that I'm aware of. I never saw it on mine. I always thought the second position for the hood prop was a Honda specific thing.

Ironically enough, ours spend more time with the hood open. :lol:

I find that removing 4 convenient bolts and the washer hose gives you lots of room to work on the engine.
I actually do that,so it's not a smart ass answer.
I got a bad back so I just remove the hood and go to town......(for beer..)

Lol I used to work on Honda's a lot, and I agree. It's almost depressing.

you talking about just pulling the hood? id do that but i jsut got the car and it needs quite a bit of work. im basically fixing one thing/night then taking it on a test drive to make sure its all well and fine. just dont want to be taking the hood off and on a bunch of times each day.

It's 4 bolts and if it's aluminum it Is super light......just pull the hood.

if you're creative, it will open enough for you to do just about anything. i swapped engines in my '87 without ever taking the hood off - something virtually impossible with the Gen I.

i set something up using a mop-handle. ghetto, i know, but it worked and when i got the car, it didn't a have a hood prop at all.

i pop them open until they begin to get binding resistance and then use a pole to prop them up. you can do anything you need to do without removing the hood. my load leveller takes up nearly an additional 12" on my cherry picker to the engine and it still clears well enough to rip out an engine and transmission together.

this is more about clearance between the intercooler and the hood at the very back of the bay. less about the front of it.

not sure i follow, the hood clearance between the IC and hood is always the same and you cannot change that.

when im working on it. looks like this from the side < i want it to look like this L so i can get my giant head back there to see what im doing.

won't happen without possibly damaging the hood hinges.

i have seen people force the hinges to take full swing but i wouldn't recommend it.

my old prelude had these removable stops that just bolted to the hinges. it was rather helpful.

I always liked the two positions that Hondas have. Working on Hyundais (at the moment) it's funny to see just a couple of older ones have it - like they thought "hey, let's try it out on this one" - or perhaps they poached a Honda engineer for that one :lol:

I can fix your other problem.
If you get a steel hood and a spasmatic right arm..you can fix that "giant head"..lol!..WHAM!..(fixed!)

personally i think its got to do with how the cars are manufactured and designed. keep in mind just about all honda's are front wheel drive so having the hood open like that means you can get the motor out from the top if you dont have a way to get the car high enough and drop the motor out the bottom.

however my s2000 has that too and its just wicked convenient.

Just take the few minutes to remove the hood and set it aside. Assuming it's not raining, take your test drives without the hood on.
