S5 TII exhaust upgrade
Hi, I just got S5 TII. I would like to install RB REV T2 exhaust. But I heard that I need to either install FCD or upgrade ECU, Rtek? then install bigger fuel pump and maybe bigger secondary injector. I went to Rtek7 website and understand a bit but not whole alot.....
I would appreciate if someone tell me what to use for the pump and injector, like make and model, etc. My S5 TII has rebuilt motor so I don't want to blow it. Do I need to install both bigger injectors? or ok for just secondary? Thank you. |
or you could just port the wastegate. RB recommends those mods because with the freer flowing exhaust you get boost creep from the undersized stock wastegate. (though the s5 is much better than the s4). RB makes their claimed increase in hp (60 hp i think) by the increase in boost it causes.
So you could go with those mods, or you could just port the wastegate. depends on your goals. If you want to keep stock power, port. If you want more power, do those mods. Oh, popular brand for pump is walbro 225 and you only NEED to get bigger secondaries, but you can do both primary and secondary if you like. You just need a way to control them, whether by Rtek or SAFC |
Thank you Scrims. any brand or make, model for the bigger injector?

Thank you, RotaryRocket88. So i see you put FD pump. is it also pretty good?

I'm in the same boat, did you do the mods yet?
I got full rb exhaust for s5 t2, I ported my turbo, got fcd, about to install fuel pump 255. So should i get rtek and 720 secondaries? also for rtek 1.7 is it just put in the chip and your done? |

Yes, better flow rates and it doesn't overwhelm the stock FPR like a walbro.
If you want to run more than stock boost, use the Rtek. You can't install the chip on the 1.7 yourself. The ECU gets shipped to pocketlogger and they install it for you. Read info on their website, www.pocketlogger.com. |

I don't plan to run more than stock boost, but with the mods I have now(rb full exhaust, fcd, fuel pump walbro 255, ported turbo), wouldn't I need rtek?

If you don't plan on running more than stock boost, why do you have an FCD? If your wastegate is ported, boost should be controllable, and you won't have to do anything. A larger fuel pump, FCD / Rtek, etc... are really only needed if you turn the boost up. The walbro by itself does nothing for you; it actually makes you run even more rich. The FCD just gives the turbo the option of boost creeping past the normal 8.6psi fuel cut level. And the Rtek would just be bought for the extra little features (smoothed out injector transition, lower staging point, etc...).
"1988 Turbo Convertible: S4 13BT, S5 Turbo (35mm Wastegate), S5 TII Trans, 4.1 NA LSD, Turbo-back RB Exhaust Rtek 2.1, LC-1, 550/720cc Injectors, FD Pump" Do you know what kind of hp your at with theses mods? |
also, is removing the bac any benefit to me?
|
Freeing up the exhaust well help spool,
the exhaust by itself DOES NOT raise your boost. When you free up the exhaust with an UNPORTED wastegate it usually causes the boost to creep up higher, because the stock wastegate is too small to bypass enough gas. When you port the wastegate, like you are saying you did, it makes the boost stay at stock levels. FCD is only necessary if you are going over stock boost levels, which it doesn't seem like you are. Really, you don't even need the fuel pump, it's actually making you run richer. And no, removing the bac is of no benefit to you. |

Jeez, many posts!! I have not done anything yet. I went to Greddy website but 720cc injector is low inpedence. so I can't use it. My mechanic recommends to put stand alone computer if i am planning to do anything more than just changing exhaust. FCD and Rtek won't do much. Lets see how much money i got in my bank....... :0

Stage 1 Rteks are good for use with the stock turbo. The stage 2 Rtek is basically a stock ECU with almost all the benefits of a standalone (ie. programmable), and has been used sucessfully with many modified turbo setups. |

And you can use the low impedance injectors, you just have to wire in some sort of resistor. Can't remember where to wire it in or what size resistor though..... |
