S5 headlight issue

Hello all, when i turn my headlights switch on all the way my side markers and tail lights work but ny headlights won't light up but if i pull the bright switch and hold it my brights turn on but don't stay. Could it be the headlight relay or the switch? Is this something i can fix at home? I'm not very familiar with wiring and it scares me honestly.the car has been sitting for a while but gets driven 3-5 times every month Please help me out.

Find the headlight relay (located at the front of the car). Ground the White/Blue wire and this should cause the lights to turn on. If it does then chances are it's the headlight switch. The role of the switch is to place a ground on the W/L wire when the knob is rotated to the 2nd position. This ground is then sent to the relay which activates the lights.

Thank you for the reply. I will look at it when i get the chance but there are two relays (dimmer relay and head light relay). If is the relay is there a way i could figure out what caused the failure? A while back my brother put the battery in backwards and it popped the main fuse but i don't think that would cause the relay to malfunction. I dint want it fixed and then it mess up a week or two later. Thanks!

Dimmer relay does not have the White/Blue wire but the headlight relay does. If grounding the W/L wire, as suggested turns on the lights, then the relay(s) is not the problem but the switch is.

The battery powers all the fuses in the engine fuse box. One of these fuses is the Head fuse. This fuse powers the headlight relay.

And tell your brother to leave your car alone.

Grounded the white/blue wire and my lights came on so i guess it's the switch. Are they cheap? Now to figure out how to take it out Haha thanks for the help man and i tiled him to stick to 240sx's if he can't figure out how to put a battery in right

Brand new they cost about $300 or so if not more. A used one , which can be found in the for sale forum, are much cheaper ($50 or so maybe) but some of them have issues much like yours.

Whew! That's a lot of moolah for a switch i did some research into repairing it myself and i don't have the tools for it but my mom's boyfriend might be of help. Is it worth it to fix or should i just buy a used one? I don't think my post count is high enough for the selling and trading section.

They go for about 50 bucks or so in the 2nd Gen FS Section.
you can put up a WTB in Parts Wanted or place an ad in Sec Gen Parts.
You DO have adequate post count.
