misterstyx69 01-07-14 07:49 AM

there is actually a Tag at the filler plug that says "Lsd type fluid only" on the Lsd diff.

rotate one wheel the other one goes in the same direction.

bumpyfcrx7 01-07-14 12:01 PM

yeah i thought there would be
but there is a good chance it would peel off over the years. yeah i think mine may be open dont know y thay would bring a turbo sports car out with open diff

Were the s4 lsd's only available on Turbo 2's or were they an option on any NA models?

S4 GXLs came with them.

misterstyx69 01-08-14 01:40 PM

this info is in the FAQ thread at the top of the New Tech section.

By the way the tag is aluminum, and is used as a crush washer to seal the filler plug.

Oh that's good to know. I was hoping possibly not to have to deal with swapping transmission and driveshaft to get an LSD. Thanks for the response!

good to know!!

Ya,some Fc's did come with an LSD.(explained already)TII's had LSD.
If you swap to a TII trans, then you need all the other stuff to make it work as it is just not a simple swap over.
To correctly do it you need all the components from the back of the engine to the Rear of the car.
From Flywheel to diff.
Many threads on that.

Some guys also are utilizing parts from both setups..like N/A Trans to TII diff..etc.
So if you go that route we will let you get your fingers tappin, looking for the threads that are available on that subject.
Good luck to ya.

Beware s4 na gxl lsd clutch types have different internals than the turbo counter parts

well..correct.
they are also different physically in size.
So any N/A LSD parts can't be swapped to a TII LSD.
The N/A LSD guts will not fit in the Pumpkin.Vice versa.

When I took apart a gxl lsd it went down smooth. Soo did the t2 one I did it was just a mission to get it to go back into the casing

Bolt straight to what? The components will match if they are all turbo or non-turbo parts. A mismatch will not work.

You would get quicker and more accurate answers if you would state which car you have. Your profile only has "fc3s rx7", which helps, but it does not state whether the car has a turbo or non-turbo drivetrain.

88 turbo i just want to know if the axles on open diff turbo will fit lsd turbo

Well, I can't help you there because every turbo RX-7 came from the factory with a LSD. The open diff was only on the non-turbo cars. Therefore, either you have a weird NZ turbo model with an open diff, your car had a non-turbo diff swapped into it by a previous owner, or you have the original LSD with worn clutches that make it appear to be an open diff when you spin the wheels.

bumpyfcrx7 01-28-14 07:02 PM

yes i have a weird nz turbo i have got a complete lsd but im not sure if my axles will fit it

bumpstart 01-28-14 07:13 PM

every turbo2 did not come with a LSD diff.. only US version ones did .. in oz and NZ and many other places you had to specify

same with the NA vehicles.. in the aus market the NA diff is also open unless specified .. or unless originally an auto

( check the sales spec sheets in aus if you like... auto NA is the ONLY aus market car that comes with factory spec LSD without needing to tick a box )

Hardly any of the users on this forum would be able to help you then. Try our ANZAC subforum to see if you can get an answer:

There are also two external AUS forums:

what is the best lsd oil to use

Any synthetic* gear oil with LSD friction modifiers. Sometimes the friction modifiers are already in the bottle, and sometimes you need to add them. Professional racers like to add them so that they can adjust the LSD lock-up by proportioning the additive as desired.

* Synthetic means Group IV (PAO) and/or Group V (Ester) base stock. Group III (hydrocracked) base stock is not real synthetic oil.

I'm not familiar with the Cusco oil, but I don't think that it is synthetic. Also, 75W85 is a little light, as the factory service manual recommends SAE 90. Do you happen to have Idemitsu, Red Line, Motul, Royal Purple, Amsoil, or other synthetic oil brands in your region?

You can accomplish that by using oil without the friction modifier, such as Red Line 75W90NS. If the chatter bothers you, then you can add a little bit of friction modifier until the chatter disappears.

bumpyfcrx7 02-10-14 10:28 PM

i can order oil online so sae 90 i think royal purple is ment to be good il have a look thanx for your help

misterstyx69 02-11-14 10:48 PM

I think Royal purple also has a LSD additive that you can get to add with the Gear oil..real small bottle of the stuff.
If you add it to your Diff it helps a lot.
