RX7 FD starts, idles rough, then dies?
Good afternoon/morning.
I'm having a major issue with my RX7.. it turns over no problem.. idles terribly (shaking like crazy) then dies. I try to give it gas when it starts to die but it does not help for long. I have looked through many discussions on this topic and I have tried a few things to try and get the car running but nothing seems to be working. What I have Done: - replaced all spark plugs/wires. The old ones looked rough but still got good spark. - Checked all the coil packs with a reader, everything seems to be in good order. - checked for flooding in the engine. - checked to make sure the car was getting fuel even once started. - did a (cold) compression test. I know the number will be off because the engine was not at running temperatures, but everytime I tested it I got very similar readings. - The vacuum lines are all new, and I dont see any that have slipped off. Issues leading up to this: I was driving home one day and my front main went. I replaced the main with the engine still in the car. seemed to be running perfectly for a few days. about three days after replacing the main my throttle started sticking shut and the car would not accelerate. I took the throttle body apart and cleaned it all, worked fine after that. two days later.. I drove to work no issues at all. when I tried to leave about 8 hours later this new problem started. I'm not 100 percent sure what to try next..? any thoughts on the topic would be very helpful! - Thanks in advance. I imported the car about four years ago now, it has approx 140000xx on the engine. (not sure if it has a rebuilt status) |
*What is a "front main"? *On the firewall just above the throttlebody is bracket with a small black sensor marked "sensor boost" or some such. Has a single electrical plug and a vacuum hose running to it from a nipple on the right side of the upper intake manifold. Make sure that vacuum hose is attached securely at both ends. And that the connector is secure as well. I believe there is a way to check for codes on the jdm cars but you’ll have to search or wait for someone more familiar with those models. |
Sorry front crank shaft gasket.
I will check out that vacuum line you suggested when I get home and let you know! - thanks |
