rx7 fd rev wont go past 6100

Hi all this is more about advice on what the problem is my FD wont rev past 6100 its more like a rev limiter cutting out fuel. I'm in the middle of changing the fuel pump, filter and fuel line at mo I'm all so gonna change the coils for some I've got lying about. she done 80 000 on the clock and had a engine rebuild 10 year ago and coved about 10 000 miles. I've put a power fc and commander in exhaust is I think a 3'' decat and hks air filters the injectors are stock will be upgrading them soon. I've not changed any setting on PFC its on the base settings as I don't know what I'm doing and don't want to blow the engine. All the vacuum pipes I've replaced as they were not in good shape. I'm just wondering what els it could be if they don't work

thanks

sounds like maybe somehow the rev limiter was lowered or you are hitting boost cut. the latter is the most likely, since in colder weather your boost will increase, and with your mods it could be spiking.

Hi thank you for the quick reply thinking if I'm right the guy who I bought the RX off said it did over boost and under boost. Another quick question should I get the waste gate ported I'm gonna fit a boost controller on. sorry for the questions

thanks

doesn't hurt to port the wastegate to manage boost better, though a boost controller can't help you to lower boost. any underboosting issues are likely just failing solenoids.

Could the plugs be getting blown out? I had a similar issue a few years ago and a plug change fixed it right up.

I think about porting my waste gate too, but still I'll get a boost controller. Many people told me the solenoids may be faulty especially in higher boost applications. So with a boost controller you get a solenoid plus more insight to what your boost is doing

Hi all sorry for late reply just to say thanks to all that helped out it was the fuel filter that was stopping it from going past 6000 rpms so I've relocated the fuel filter as well as i said thank to you all

thanks

If you’re running an aftermarket cat-back with a midpipe ( no cat) you NEED to port the wastegate OR reinstall a cat (hi-flow cat works too) to avoid boost creep. And no, a boost controller will NOT control creep. That’s only good for boost SPIKE. CREEP comes from too little exhaust back pressure overwhelming the waste-gate. SPIKE comes from opening the intake side.
Both are overboost conditions that risk going lean.
