Did the car sit for a long time?

GregoryRx7 05-09-17 02:45 PM

I would check for a vacuum leak.

Sgtblue 05-09-17 04:47 PM

Maybe a vac leak, but in my experience those usually cause a loping or hunting idle. Not a steady one as described.
OP...idle can be affected by a lot of things, even seemingly unrelated mods like a lightened flywheel. And adjusting the idle isn't necessarily as straight forward as turning a screw. You might download a copy of the FSM and go thru the trouble shooting. And check the FAQ sticky at the top of this page under "I" for idle. There are some links that might help.

thanks the guy who had it before told me he adjusted the idle to be high and it is two screws i believe he said , i apprciate the help guys, i need a controller for my apexi ecu i dont have the fc controller and jjust wondering could i tune the car myself if i had an fc controller

Sgtblue 05-11-17 01:37 PM

Not a tuner but the commander (what you're referring to) allows you to make some adjustments but is probably used most for monitoring. You have read-outs for things like coolant temps, intake air temps, injector duty, knock etc. You can also perform a sensor check. For tuning you need a datalogit with a laptop.

thanks for the help brother

I got the idle fixed but when I got out spanking automatic mustang she drips coolant , also she get hot after about two hours of racing around so I ordered a performance radiator and getting it installed , I'm curious what she is putting to the ground it honestly feels like about 260

What happens if you let it idle for a while? Does it eventually drop? Mine goes to 3k rpm on a real cold start but I was told that was normal. I dont remember the exact reason but I believe the ECU purposely does it for the rotary and getting the gas to burn and not flood the engine

Sgtblue 05-20-17 07:14 AM

^That's the 'Accelerated Warm-up System" or "AWS". And it is normal on a stock car. Another emissions related thing designed to get the engine (as well as the pre-cat and cat) up to temperature as quickly as possible. And you're right to mention this in the thread. I forgot about it. I removed AWS years ago and assumed the OP was talking about a high warm idle.
BTW, you can lower your AWS high idle simply by blipping the throttle or IIRC, putting it in gear.
