rx7 3800 hesitation problem please help asap

okay just bought my second Rx7 its a 86 gxl with 135,000 brand new alternator and belts and new coils and wires it was an hour and a half drive back home after i picked it up car ran fine when i test drove it except has the 3800 hesitation so im driving home and car starts jerking really bad i pull into a hotel parking lot and it dies and wouldnt start back up so the hotel security let me leave it there over night and get it towed the following afternoon the next day i took out the plugs and cleaned them they were soaked in gas (flooded) and put them in and it fired right up with lots of white smoke everywhere then stopped smoking now runs fine but still has the 3800 hesitation so my secondary injectors aint kickin on and the original ecu ground under the intake manifold is missing and i cant see the ground wire i see the spot where its suppose to be but no screw in it so i went to my ecu and grounded the 4 ground wires on the ecu plugs 3G, 3A, 2R, 2C still does it idk wats wrong with it in first gear it gets to 5000 rpms but all other gears only to 3800 the cars runs fine if i stay below 3800 but once i hit that point it just cuts out and i need this car to get to work can someone please help thanx ahead of time

Have you pulled off the TB/Dynamic Chamber/UIM to look for the ground? [search my username and picture guide to find instructions for removal]

Definitely sounds like it's not grounded..

kinda similar problem w a slight hesitation/ flat spot at that same rpm until it "fully" warms up

yea im thinking its the ground cus its missing from under the intake manifold i see the hole where the bolts supposed to be but its not there but if i take off the manifold will i need a new gasket or is it something i can just take off quick reground and put back together also my car isnt holding idle when its warm it shuts off unless i hit the gas a lil while stopped

You *might* not need a new gasket, but I'd recommend picking one up [atkinsrotary.com has inexpensive ones].

It'll probably take you two or three hours to get it off and back on the first time. I've done it so much that I can get it off and back on in 45min in a pinch..

Search the archive for the perfect idle thread, that should tell you everything possible about fixing your idle. :)

IF you choose to check the injectors you can strap/secure the injectors to the fuel rails. Unbolt and remove the fuel rails. (There's an illustration of this in the 88' FSM. "Fuel and Emission Control Systems" 4A-70) - Obviously you do not remove the injectors or any of the fuel lines. Be sure to set some rags or something under the injector's fuel outlet nozzle, to absorb fuel in case they are stuck open. Jumper the yellow fuel pump test connector at the passenger side strut tower, near the AFM. Turn the key to "ON"... Not to "START". You'll hear the fuel pump running... Now go check the injectors to see if they are spewing/leaking.

If you do not have a Factory Service Manual, here is a link to the 1988 FSM "Fuel and Emission Control Systems": http://foxed.ca/rx7manual/manuals/19...SYSTEMS_NA.pdf

If your injectors need serviced... Try Witch Hunter Performance
