rtek or megasquirt??

I'm in the process of installing a freshly built s4. Street ported. I'm currently drifting my fc. Eventually I plan for a REW, but this engine will do. Is it worth the time of a megasquirt or the ease of just sending my ecu off for a v2.1 rtek and just hunt down a palm pilot. I did hear a rumor of android support in the future. I plan on beating on this engine for a few seasons till I am ready for the REW. Any input is better than none

welcome to the board. :)

well, as you've stated your quandary, the choice for me would be simple. it's totally up to you though. you're the only one that can judge your capabilities and local support system. i would Megasquirt it. i can't say i know much about the Rtek aside from it being a piggyback system. however, since you plan on going REW in the future, why not just get a full EMS now since it's likely you would need one then anyway?

If the long-term goal is using an REW, a true standalone is a better choice. While you could control it with an Rtek 2.x, you will likely run into injector size/control limitations if you're planning on 400+ whp.

Ahem, I have to comment on this one :). A piggyback would be an SAFC, F-Con or similar device that alters signals to the ECU to trick it into changing fuel delivery. An Rtek 2.x is a fully programmable "stock" ECU. Fuel and timing changes are saved directly to the memory just as you'd find in a standalone. The major advantages are extreme ease of set up and ability to run all of the emissions systems without jumping through any hoops. The major disadvantages are use of the AFM (maxes out around 300whp) and fuel injector control is not really possible with anything over ~1200cc.
