Rough Starting After Sitting

After leaving my '84 RX7 GS for about a week without driving it, I had trouble starting it. It was cranking fine but was acting flooded (after a while of cranking, I'm sure it had become flooded if it wasn't already). When I finally got it started, it was idling very rough until I revved it up a bit.

Recently it started happening when I would let it sit overnight and now it happens when I leave it for just a few hours. I can get it to start on the first crank but it acts flooded until I let it rev about 6k rpm for a few seconds and then it seems to "clear its throat" and then it idles and runs fine.

Am I getting oil in the combustion chamber while it sits? Apex seals, oil metering pump, other thoughts? I plan to put some new plugs in this weekend to see if there's any improvement.

When you pull the plugs, you'll probably have your answer. Best to start with fresh plugs and replace the cap, rotor and plug wires while you're at it. Once that's done, you'll know for sure that you've eliminated ignition as the problem...now that I think of it, go through the ignition system from the coils and make sure everything is tightened down also.

Let us know how it goes...:icon_tup:

Sounds like fuel leaking down into the "combustion chambers" while the car sits. After you shut it down, look into the carb and see if gas is still flowing in...
