Removing and reinstalling emblems

How do I remove the little "holders on the various Rx7 emblems on the fenders and front piece? Want to remove for repainting then reinstall. Thanks

The what?

ive always used dental floss and you jimmy it in there and tug on them forward little by little from each side.. it wont scratch your paint and wont break them

Back in the day we called them "barrel clips". The floss method works (I used fishing line) but sometimes they can be stubborn on older cars. If at all possible, get behind them and push them out.

Heat gun, warm it up a little and it will pull right off. Clean the surface with Goo Gone and reinstall the new badge.

cant you go in through the back and just pop them out with your thumb

ZE Power MX6 03-26-12 03:34 PM

I don't think so, not for the hood or the rear Mazda emblem at least. I don't know about the fender, I think they are just glued on without any alignment pins.

sorry, but goo gone will take off the residue pretty good when you get them all the way off

I like that floss idea

coffeeguy 03-26-12 04:56 PM

mine had some tape residue left over on the paint, probably from previous owner since it doesnt sound like you have the same problem lol

ZE Power MX6 03-27-12 12:46 AM

Oh, I had some very small and light residue that the Goo Gone can't get a rid of, but I covered it with the Efini badge

Have you try claybar?
