Rebuild Engine - Shut off while driving on hwy
So we have had our 83 RX7 (carb) for about 3 yrs now. After an unfortunate apex deal. We purchased a new atkins rebuild 13b and put a large street port in the engine.
Now the car has been starting, though sometimes starts and immediately dies a couple of times before running fully. So last night we took it on its grand 'first time back on the roads' journey to hit up the local Mazda meet. It got on city and hwy speeds fine, but after about 10 mins the car just stops running. No sputter, nothing, just dies. (it was after going up a decent hill on the hwy, but not sure if that matters) We coast it into a parking lot and cant get it to start again, and have to tow it home. I'm hoping someone has experienced something like this before. My husband know more about the car, but I'm researching the issue. Here are some details I can think of Car Details
Incident Details
We are going to get the battery and alt tested tonight just in case, the other things I think of are flooding. And checking the floats. Anyone have any other ideas? Thanks! Derrian |
First off, rebuilds that consist of used housings and new seals take a while to build up their compression and this is some of what your fighting.
If your engine is flooded it will spin like there is no compression when you try to start it. |
i dont know i think its something else but if you rebuild it you could feel the compression when you spin it

Does it have spark?
Is it getting gas? . |
