Rear Brake Bolt-sheared off

Car is a 94 FD Touring with 34k miles. No mods and this was its second trip waking from winter hibernation.

Was out and about last night and heard a loud metal clanking sound post braking. Stopped to find the lower rear brake bolt broke off causing the caliper to come out of alignment with the rotor.

this is the bottom bolt that goes through the hub and then through the brake caliper clip and then bracket. The threads on the hub looks to be gone with the threads on the caliper bracket still intact.

I will take some pictures after work today. Looking for suggestions on causes and potential fix. Was hoping not to replace the hub now with missing threads for a new bolt.

Can’t remember for certain...but not sure the bolt hole in the hub is threaded. Are you sure that the bolt doesn’t just thread into the caliper bracket? Maybe just need another bolt? If that’s correct the bolt probably just worked loose and eventually failed. Those are torqued from the factory pretty tight IIRC. Possibly with thread locker. But heat cycles, time and moisture can do things.

And 10 years and six posts??? You need to come out of your shell man! :)

Thank you for the response. Had some more time to look at it this evening. I will be ordering new bolts and tightening things down to the proper torque spec. Look to be old age as the culprit. Checked the other side as well as the front brakes and they are all now torque to spec.

Thank you for calling me out. I have been lurking too long 😁
