random engine swap question?
 

I might get flammed big time for this but in "your opinions" which engine is better suitable for the fd the stock rotary, 2jz twin turbo (of course), or the infamous ls1 im pretty sure this has been covered but wanna know your thought if either you have personal experince with any of the swaps an you have regrets or whatever let me know.

You can pretty well stick anything into the engine bay.
It's up to you on what you call easy or suitable as you would be the one that drives it.
That is why we have other sections to this forum called the V8 Section and Other engines(non V8).

Flame or not,the car is yours to do so as you please,so I personally say if it's in your desire to do so,Screw what other say.,.they aren't paying for it..DO IT!

You didn't specify which generation RX7.
While it's a great engine, you'll retain some of that JDM goodness, and get a lot of attention from the high school tuner crowd... the Toyota engine is tall, long and heavy. It won't fit under stock, or pretty much any aftermarket hood produced for the FD. Dimensionally, an LSx motor (not necessarily LS1) fits relatively easily, is capable of great power NA, and there are "kits" available to include cross members, mounts, bump-steer correction and merge electronics. As I recall there is also minimum weight differential between the 13bREW and an LSx motor....something like 40lbs as I recall.

Yea I was pretty much leaning towards doing a lsx swap I didnt know there was so little weight difference between the two engines. Thanks alot you probably convinced me even more to go in that direction.

^That's the weight difference I recall for the 13bREW vs. LSx.... i.e. a 13b with a stock sequential system. While the engine itself is very compact and light, the sequential manifold and turbos (not sure if it includes emissions related stuff like airpump) mitigate what otherwise would be a much lighter power plant than the LSx. Hence, the LSx ends up weighing (only) about 40 lbs more.
There are still differences to consider in favor of the rotary...
*Higher red-line, smooth power curve.
*Relatively simple and inexpensive to rebuild
*Replacing the 25 yr old design of the stock turbos and sequential system with a much simplified modern SINGLE turbo will make as much or more power, and over a broader rev range.
*No need to change transmissions or other drive-train components.

Glad you liked that. :) I know you're not suppose to argue in the New Member Section, but I couldn't help it. I've had enough of the claims that everything "deserves respect" blah blah. There are plenty of examples that prove just because you can do something, doesn't mean you should. In these cases bringing back some ridicule might be a good thing.

And I'm doubting you got owned. You've been around too long. Maybe rented...briefly. But not owned. ;)

about the whole "everything deserves respect"-issue, i couldn't have said it better myself. i look at it like ... i respect your right to do what you wish to your property, but you should respect my right to think/call it retarded. :) fair?

as far as i'm concerned, as long as the thread doesn't get sidetracked on a non-technical issue (i guess it's sort of what i'm doing now, for example :)), i don't consider it arguing. besides, you provided key information to the question at hand. give ... and ... take ... see how that works? :)

and thanks for the vote of confidence. i appreciate it. this is just one of those times when the car fights you even to do the simplest of jobs and frustration built to the point of dejection. i will be going for Round 2 later today.
