Quick question about my 1990 GTU

Hello, so recently I sent my new 1990 GTU to a rotary specialist because it had an electrical issue that I could just not figure out. I bought the car without seeing it run (don't worry I did not spend that much on it) because of this I was fairly certain that the motor was no good. I got an update from my mechanic telling me that the electrical issue was fixed but that the engine is no more. I was thinking about replacing it with a used engine. While I had a working car I would rebuild the engine that was in it originally. My only concern is that aperantly no ordinary 13b will be compatible with my car. Is this true do I really need to buy an engine that came from my specific model? What would you guys recommend? Money is somewhat tight I am a high school student afterall.

you need an S5 engine.
S5 is Series Five..which was made from 1989 -91.

..and let me get this straight. You are a struggling student that wants to buy a used engine PLUS rebuild his old engine??
I'd get a used one and be able to at least drive the car..Save up for a rebuild OR sell the parts off the old engine to pay for what you put out on a used engine and you wouldn't be out anything at all!

I am not really struggling I actually have saved up a fair bit of money should I just go for the rebuild?

you said money is tight, now it's not. if money isn't tight, rebuild it or just buy another engine.

You are asking total strangers a personal financial question.that is up to YOU...This is TECH not banking 101...you want to rebuild?,install a used engine?,put a Rice package on your car?..totally up to YOU..it's YOUR car.

Now ..does my ass look fat in these Jeans?..that is the REAL question!

Well I could lead ya to drink..but then you'd get a DUI and hate and blame me..haha.
Me?..I'd have a story to tell!

Truth, like you said is hard sometimes.
The only one that can influence your direction is you,and you can get sound advice along with stupidity.
That is where your personal decision comes into play.

I got my car and frankly I wanted MY car..BUT with influences of other peoples. It would still be MINE but have the Good ideas of others that made it MINE.
It would have been nice to have Their Money..but I was smart enough to know that wouldn't happen so I did the build with what I got.I fought tooth and nail to get the car running and I was proud of the results later.
BUT I Did thank the guys on here for all the Written info(posted threads ,etc) because without it I wouldn't have had a damn clue what to do with it!

Anyways my age is showing by all the fatherly shit I am spewing,so good luck with the Build.
Cheers STYX!~

Mistery that is well said. JC14 this is your car and your money do what you feel is best for your situation and car.
If it were me and I had the money and could go without the car while is was being fixed I would go with a rebuild and start moving in the direction I want to go with the car, if that being stock or full port jobs, turbo etc.

Good luck with your decision and keep us updated as there are many people that like to follow builds for ideas.
