Question of the year!

ok so how dose one go about doing a 20b swap? lmfao.. im just kidding... i dont want anyone to think thats the real question!!!! NO! but i would like to know if any one has see or herd about a 13b/12a running on lp? (liquid propane) i work on agricultural equipment and most of it is older than the oldest living president. and we had a lp tractor come in and so i asked why lp.. responce was simple.. ( as the sound of a rotary hitting 9000 rpms came to mind) and i was told lp is has a more consistent octane ratting than gas. like 109 and up. so i was just wondering, i figured it would be like cng (compressed natural gas) but that has a lower octane than most gas. any input would be great! thanks!

Look up member: Bumpstart in the Australian Forum.he has a worked on Rotaries on LP.

If you do alot of research on the rotary engine, it can run any type of fuel if done correctly. Honestly i wouldn't think getting one to run on LP would be that hard, change it over to a carb intake setup, and modify a LP carb and strap on a regulator. Would probably run smoother and make more power on LP than 87......but i could be wrong lol

My buddy ran a Suzuki 125 on tequila, after running out of gas in the bush..although it did fart a bit and thought it would die..
Actually that describes Both!

very simple to do and works great

simple as using the impco gear around the 200 or 225 series ( with E convertor ) . and a decent ignition

throw in the tractor to4B and you are good for 300 at the wheels
( to the limits of the single convertor )

i wouldnt do it just NA,, as the mixer can represent a decent pressure drop and flow obstruction on some worked rotary engines
under boost however .. you take advantage of the octane and the losses in the mixer are not bad when compared to a bad tube fin intercooler

i have my personal FC on gas for about 8 years or more ( impco 225 FB system and haltech doing 4 coil ignition )
and have another ute out there in similar guise ( running modded dizzy and DLIDFIS bosch system )
.. have helped out a little on a vapour ( injected ) rx7 also ( no mixer carb )

there is also a thread on here for a rotary bike grass/ dirt racer where he is currently going with the simple impco 200 setup that is similar to my 225 setups ( DLIDFIS )

in australia a few guys also run GRA gas mixer setups on rotary turbos

LPG vapour compliments the rotary engines biggest weakness/s
.. that of excessive quench
( too much combustion surface area )
.. and poor mixture distribution ( of wet fuels ) , due to low inlet airspeeds at low revs

all while bringing at least 100 RON octane ( blend depending )

so can run at leaner AFR under load than you would expect with the petrol engines
and easily cruise and idle at lambda ( with use of very simple feedback impco mixer systems )
and produce far lower hydrocarbons and carbon monoxides than the petrol engine whilst keeping N0x reasonable
.. usually NOx is difficult to keep under wraps in LPG piston engines due to higher chamber ( not exhaust ) temps
( than the rotary , which is generally lower during combustion, but higher in the exhaust )

PS

runs super clean .. white turbine wheels and almost clean rotors , no excessive wear on anything
.. runs very well even with just leading only ignition ( due to the very good homogeneous mixing )

it just needs the OMP working well .. and housing type oil injection is preferred ( there is no premixing LPG ! )
.. and we also have prototyped a stand alone controller for the electronic OMP units when fitted with " dumb" vapour mixers

:dunno:thanks... ill be doing research for a week or to just to keep up with the lingo... im not normally the one lost in the sauce. its refreshing from time to time. thank you for your time and advice.
