Question about buying FC...

There is a 1987 Rx7 GX in my area. The owner has set a price of $1000, but I can probably get her down to $500.

The problem is that the car has 240,000 on the original engine (no rebuilds), and needs body work + paint + new sunroof and a clutch. I can probably get the body work + paint done for $2500 (same colour). After that, the car will still need a clutch and engine rebuild or replacement.

I was aiming to pick up a running FC for under $5000 (before certification and e-testing). The car and body work would be $3000, plus I still need the clutch, sunroof, and a basic engine rebuild. Can I make this work within that budget?

P.S - I am not interested in performance, porting, or any modifications. I just want a reliable working FC.

P.P.S - Is there anyone reliable in Toronto or Barrie who can perform a basic 13b rebuild on the cheap?

Just buy one that runs. you can get a rebuilt TII for around 5 or 6k

Its hard to believe that it hasn't been rebuilt either. I know the n/a's are tanks, and there are a FEW of them make it over 300K, but very FEW

i agree with just buying a running one thats in good shape if your worried about the body. That or just buy it, run it till it pops, then part it out, may even profit from the parting out

An NA isn't worth that kind of investment when you have no history/attachment to it. The value of these cars is "creeping" up, but not to that level.

When I see this type of thread I cringe as to what I did to my cars and how little I sold them for.
The money invested will not come back so think about whether you want to just toss money into it and lose it.
Good advice?..depends..Your money.,your investment,your decision..so advice?..research.
Best advice?..get a decent body/chassis'd car for the least amount of money..and if the engine is gone then look at doing it yourself.
BTW if you hit the Canadian section you will find shitloads of guys that can build engines in the GTA.
Actually,if JDK is still putting them on, you can be part of a group of guys that were in a "class" to rebuild their own engines.

NOW,since you are asking about purchasing a car..which is NOT a TECHNICAL Question I will just lock this thread and wish you the best Finding a car.( as per this rule above: https://www.rx7club.com/new-member-r...uying-1087456/..Please read this. )
Deleting it would have lost you a post count.
Good luck.
