Premix for winter storage?
Greetings. Need some information related to winter storage. This is my first time going thru winter storage my RX7 FD. I've read a lot of the posts already and I'm good with the steps to follow but... cannot find a thread discussing if it is ok to add premix to the fuel tank for winter storage. All feedback is to add Sta-bil only so I'm guessing premix is not needed but want to make sure. Thanks in advance!

Premix is mandated when you’ve removed or disabled the OMP, to replace the lost lubrication of the hard seals. Some of us also premix at a reduced rate WITH the OMP for other reasons. But for storage it isn’t necessary. In fact my car has been in storage from November to April every year for the past 16 years and I’ve never used Stabil either. No harm in adding some if it helps you sleep. But I just fill the tank with, preferably non-ethanol, 91 or better. |
If you're leaving it for a while I would definitely add stabill to a full tank of gas for peace of mind. If you're not already premixxing (deleted OMP) I'd say fill the tank, add stabil, check your coolant, and park. Check out AaronCake's website. I believe he has a full write-up on winterizing.

Sta-Bil + premix is fine.

Was a bit concerned about mixing premix and sta-bil for storage. My FD still has the OMP... I just add a bit of premix for peace of mind. The car will be sleeping for about 6 months. Guess I will go ahead and fill the tank with no premix and just sta-bil. Then during spring will add premix when empty. Thanks for the information!!!

I like to add to my tank even for winter storage so that I don't forget to add it in the spring. But either way works :icon_tup: |
