Potential new RX7 FC Vert owner with questions!

My name is Kevin and I'm from MA. I'm currently looking at a '90 rx7 vert from canada. The car spent 7 years in canada and most of its life in Massachusetts. The car has over 150,000 miles on it. But from the looks of it, it looks as if it's been garage kept it's entire life. Paint looks great, but I'm going to go see the car in 2 days. This wouldn't be my daily as I have a 2012 wrx.

I was wondering how much this car would be worth as an offer to the seller (2-3k? my guess). My plans for this car is to drive it on the weekend and to meets. Eventually I'd like to swap a v8 into it and many other things to make it a track car. For my uses would the convertible trim be a bad choice? Should I look into other trims such as the GXL, GTU, or TII?

Also I couldn't find if there were any differences between the canada and usa versions of the rx7 fc vert. Does it matter that the car is from canada? (Aside from KPH vs MPH on the speedo)

What can I look forward to in terms of maintainence and costs of ownership?

As a owner now of a '88 vert (and loving it!) I can say the Vert would be a really cool car to have for weekend crusin'. I use mine as a daily, and honestly the maintenance isn't bad, no more than a regular car as long as you get a decent one. I would say 2500-3500 should be a decent offer but it really will all come down to condition of the overall car. Like you can have 200,000 miles on the clock and it be absolutely clean inside and out and be worth more than something with 62,000 and ragged out. So just evaluate it like a regular car. Does it look like they drove the ever living 13b out of it or does it look like they used it to go get groceries for the last 20 years? Really all depends on that.

Question: does it still smell like Bacon??

The Vert is a heavier based car than the coupe is and even though the car is a fun little thing it really boils down to whether you want to have the "topless wonder"(Margo..555-2656..nice girl..lol!) or the reliability of a steel roof.
I had both and I would never go back to a Vert for the strict reason that the roof is cloth and prone to rips,drips and it doesn't give me the secure feeling that snow will stay on the top of the car if it ever got used for that season.The motors are a pain in the ass too.
The seals and plastics on the roof are another story.

The prices of the Vert are way higher than that of the coupe(I don't know why,you get less car..haha!).
The Speedo cluster can be easily interchanged though if you do not like the KPH display on it.

If you plan to stick a v8 into it and track it??,I'd be looking at something like a coupe for the safety aspect,hands down.You can put a nice roll cage into the coupe but the vert would leave appendages vulnerable and that would sort of hurt..ouch!

Although it can be done, a vert is typically a poor choice for a track car. I would recommend a coupe with no sunroof. Also, if you really want a V8, then get a Mustang, Camaro, or other V8 car. With so many good, cheap V8 cars around, there is no point in wasting your time converting an RX-7.

I have always enjoyed my verts. The only downfall would be the top, they're pricey to replace and only a couple manufacturers make the top. Look behind the seats and the compartment behind the seats (spare tire is held) for mildew and signs of old water stains. I wouldn't go any higher than $2800 for the car.
