Popping/sputtering above 4000

A friend of mine was telling me that his 88 N/A starts popping/sputtering after 4000 rpms. I haven't driven the car so I can't give too much more detail but I just wanted to know if anyone has had an issue similar to this. Supposedly the car drives fine below 4k but above 4k it has that issue. I have yet to take a look at it for myself (he lives a couple hours away) but I will be taking a look this upcoming weekend. I haven't done much with Rx7s as I am a 240 man, so my knowledge of rotary engines is very limited. Any information will help, redirection to similar threads, possible causes, etc.

Thanks in advance

I'm having the exact opposite problem... above 3.5/4k it runs strong, but below that, it sputters, coughs, shakes and floods. My current theory is that there's a clog somewhere in the fuel line, as the MAF/TPS/etc check out. I need to check the fuel filter, but I'm a bit hesitant to drain the lines with my very limited car experience.

Whether all this relates to your problem, I don't know. But they share a lot of symptoms.

On the other hand, it could just be that the secondary injectors aren't doing their job. They kick in at 4k RPM to give the engine a LOT of extra scoot.

I think its either primary injectors or secondary injectors.
