Planning to purchase fd

Hey guys I’m in the Pennsylvania and Maryland area and I’ve been exercising the idea of possible picking up an fd. I am a tech by trade but zero experience with the rotaries. With that said I would like to “build one” instead of buying complete. Reason being I don’t have the $$$ for a completed one and building it and piecing the car together will teach me a lot about the car I feel. With that said what are the chances of getting my hands on a roller for $4,000-$5,000? I’ve seen so many people talking about getting theirs for that price but never seem to come across myself?

I’ve been trying to find the right value on these things for a while now. I always hear people snapping these up for a steal but everything that comes my way is 8-10k with a blown motor, chopped up body or missing a ton of parts.

If you did find a roller that cheap, it would take years to complete and a lot more money than a complete car. Cars that cheap are also in miserable condition typically. Smashed in, fire damage, missing everything, you name it. You're just better off saving your money and getting a car in the 13k range. It will take TIME to save up but it will be infinitely better than buying a clapped out shell that you will never finish.

^This.
I understand you're a tech. But at that price you're buying, essentially, a parts donor car.

Just be patient, it's hard to find a good project rx7. I'm in the same boat right now but eventually the right car will roll around. Its not a terrible Idea either to allocate a little more money in order to give yourself more options due to how uncommon these cars are.
